Low Sexual Desire

What is Low Sexual Desire in Men?

Low libido or low sex drive refers to a lack of interest in sex and sexual desire. Sexual desire often increases and decreases over time without any obvious reason. It is very common for people to experience a reduced interest in sex (low sex drive or low libido) from time to time.

What Causes Low Libido?

Low sex drive can be caused by both physical and psychological factors. Factors such as a happy relationship, good health, fitness, holidays, and relaxation can increase your libido.

Your libido may decrease due to relationship problems, childbirth, stress, excessive work, too much or too little exercise, or personal issues in your life.

Other factors that may affect your sex drive include:

  • Low levels of the hormone testosterone
  • Anxiety, depression, or fatigue
  • Being in pain
  • Certain medications, such as antidepressants, high blood pressure medications, and epilepsy medicines
  • Alcohol, smoking, or recreational drug use
  • Certain medical conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea or diabetes
  • Negative sexual experiences and low self-esteem
  • A history of unwanted sexual contact
  • Trauma or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
